Overcoming Unique Challenges
The award recognizes Edwards & Hardy's exceptional work on the De Lautour Medical Centre roof replacement project in Gisborne. This project was particularly challenging due to the building's age, unique design, and the necessity to maintain the Centre's retail operations during reroofing.
To address these challenges, the team employed a phased approach to minimize disruptions, ensuring that the Medical Centre could continue its essential services uninterrupted. They also implemented stringent safety measures, including ground spotters, isolation zones, and scrim netting, to safeguard workers and the public.
Innovative Roofing Solutions
The original roof of the De Lautour Medical Centre was composed of short-run corrugated iron with welded iron dormers. Edwards & Hardy expertly replaced this with modern corrugated and trough section profiles, incorporating membrane internal gutters to enhance durability and functionality. Additionally, the insulation in the roof cavity was upgraded where necessary, improving the building's energy efficiency and comfort.
